The third and final infrastructure working group (IWG) conference under India”s G20 hairmanship began with a focus on “creating liveable cities.” The discussions allowed G20 leaders to learn and discuss crucial issues ranging from climate change to infrastructure resilience, rapid urbanisation, and inclusion, as well as the role of technology and digitalisation.

After multiple studies revealed that its current capital, Jakarta, is sinking at an alarming rate due to excessive groundwater extraction, the Asian nation decided last year to relocate its capital city to Nusantara.

On the sidelines of the event, a panel discussion titled “The Voice from Cities” was also held. The attendees discussed essential issues concerning the problems that mayors, municipal executives, and citizens face in establishing a sustainable and inclusive future. Representatives from Harvard University, the World Resources Institute, C40 Cities, and the University of Cambridge attended the event. Atiqul Islam, the mayor of Dhaka, Bangladesh, also spoke about how to help towns and cities become more sustainable and inclusive.

The experiences and ideas being shared in the G20 meeting will pave the way for the welfare, development and prosperity of the entire humanity, and the spirit of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.
