The government’s changes in the coal and mining industries have enhanced state revenues and greatly expanded production of coal and other minerals.
In order to increase player participation in the mining industry, the government enacted changes to the Mines and Minerals (Regulation and Development) Amendment Act.
India had a 47% increase in dry fuel production in the last nine years in the coal sector. The production climbed from 572 MT in 2013–2014 to 893 MT in 2022–23, and the goal is to produce more than 1 billion tonne of coal in that year.
In order to conduct exploration, increase output, increase washing capacity, and put up new coking coal mines for auction, the government created Mission Coking Coal.
India continues to be dependent on imports for coking coal, which is mostly utilised in the blast furnace method of making steel.
In regards to coal gasification, the government announced last year that Rs 6,000 crore will be set aside for the use of the technology where emissions are relatively low.
