According to a government order, India said that power plants using imported coal will need to operate at full capacity till the end of September, extending a previous deadline by more than three months.

Although several of India’s power plants, notably those run by Adani Power and Tata Power, use imported coal, they were not all running at full capacity, which made it harder for the nation to meet its energy needs as a result of the ongoing heat wave.

The government of India initially stated that these facilities were to run at full capacity till June 15 in order to optimise output before the summer’s anticipated record-breaking rise in electricity demand.

Essar Power Gujarat Ltd., JSW Ratnagiri Ltd., and 13 additional companies with a combined capacity of 17 gigawatts have all received the order.

In isolated areas of multiple states, including the national capital New Delhi, the heat wave conditions are “very likely” to persist over the next five days, according to the India Meteorological Department.
