If government officials in Rajasthan are to be believed, lithium reserves have been found in the Rajasthani region of Degana (Nagaur). The capacity of the lithium reserves discovered here, according to the Geological Survey of India (GSI) and mining officials, is more than the lithium reserves recently discovered in Jammu and Kashmir.

A non-ferrous metal called lithium is used to create rechargeable batteries for electric vehicles, mobile laptops, and other devices. India is entirely reliant on pricey imports of lithium. Large lithium reserves have now been discovered by GSI near Degana.

There is allegedly enough lithium in this region to satisfy 80% of India's entire demand. India has been reliant on China for lithium up until now. Now, it is anticipated that China's monopoly will end and Rajasthan's fortunes would improve along with those of the Gulf nations.

Around the planet, energy is being transformed. Every nation is converting quickly to green energy from fuel energy. The use of lithium is growing across the board, including in aircraft, wind turbines, solar panels, electric vehicles, mobile phones, and all other small and large chargeable devices in the home.

The World Bank analysis projects that by 2050, there will be a 500% increase in the demand for lithium metal globally. From this perspective, Rajasthan’s massive lithium reserves are tremendously advantageous for the state's economy as well as the overall economy of the nation.

Additionally, China is the source of 53.76 percent of India’s total lithium imports. India imported lithium worth more than Rs 6,000 crore in 2020–2021; of this, more than Rs 3,500 crore was purchased from China. In this case, according to officials, Rajasthan's lithium reserves are so

abundant that China’s stranglehold on the market might be fully broken and India could produce enough lithium on its own in the matter of green energy.

Lithium is also the softest and lightest metal in the world. It is light enough to float in water and soft enough to be cut with a vegetable knife. It transforms chemical energy into electrical energy and stores it. Another fascinating tale is the discovery of lithium riches in Rajasthan. The GSI survey team travelled to Degana under the direction of the Central Government in search of high grade tungsten resources. The GSI survey team discovered that there are lithium reserves in this region.
