A multibillion-dollar investment, in addition to several chip assembly and packaging units, is scheduled to be made in two fully operational semiconductor production plants in India imminently. Two full-blown fabs are scheduled to open in India soon. These multibillion-dollar fabs will be in the 65, 40, and 28-nanometer technology, and a variety of additional packaging ideas will be under consideration.

Of the thirteen proposals for chip assembly, testing, monitoring, and packaging (ATMP) units, the government has received four for semiconductor manufacturing plants.

The plans come on top of a chip assembly plant worth Rs 22,516 crore that US memory chip manufacturer Micron is building in Gujarat. The electronics manufacturing sector was valued at Rs 1,80,454 crore (USD 29.8 billion) in FY 2013–14. Growth to Rs 8,22,350 crore ($102 billion) in FY 2022–2023 is anticipated, with additional growth to Rs 23,95,195 crore ($300 billion) by 2026.
