According to the most recent ASI results released by the National Statistical Organization (NSO), “food products,” one of the 29 major industrial groups covered by the Annual Survey of Industries (ASI), has the most operational factories (40,508) and employed the greatest number of people (2.1 million) in the organized manufacturing sector in the financial year 2022–2023 (FY23). This industry includes the preservation and processing of meat, fish, crustaceans, fruits, vegetables, and dairy products, among other things.

The industrial category  “other non-metallic mineral products” (29,321), which includes the production of glass products and other non-metallic mineral products, has the second-highest number of operating factories. At 1.7 million, textiles employ the second-highest number of people.
