India and the United States have committed to collaborate closely on technology, create cooperation programs for geological research agencies, and promptly reach an agreement on important minerals.
Deeper collaboration in the mining sector has emerged as one of India’s most active areas of interaction with the United States on essential and developing technologies.
Additionally, the Geological Survey of India and the United States Geological Survey will collaborate to explore, characterize, and evaluate rare earth elements and key mineral deposits.
The ICeT, which began in January 2023, is a bilateral framework agreed upon by both countries to enhance collaboration in various technologies including artificial intelligence, quantum computing, semiconductors, and wireless telecommunications. The framework is regarded as critical to building the Indo-US strategic partnership in technology and defence cooperation.
According to a joint fact sheet issued by both sides following the meeting, the two countries have also agreed to quickly sign a bilateral Memorandum of Understanding on critical minerals between the US Department of Commerce, the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and the Ministry of Mines.
They are also promoting new areas of collaboration in essential mineral supply chains such as graphite, gallium, and germanium. The two nations have stated that establishing a clean energy and vital minerals collaboration for the twenty-first century is critical to their ambitions in various fields, including energy and semiconductor manufacturing.
As a result, both parties have looked into prospects for collaboration in technologies such as Neodymium-iron-boron metal, alloys, and magnet manufacturing.
