The Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation (MoSPI) issued data showing that the growth rate of the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) was 4.5% in August, compared to 3.5% in July, due to robust mining activity.
In August, the mining industry rose by 6.0 percent, the energy industry by 4.1 percent, and the manufacturing sector by 3.8 percent. In the manufacturing sector, August 2025 saw positive growth for 10 of the 23 industry groupings compared to August 2024. The production of motor vehicles, trailers, and semi-trailers (9.8%), coke and refined petroleum products (5.4%), and basic metals (12.2%) are the top three positive contributors for August.
According to use-based classification, primary products, infrastructure/construction goods, and intermediate goods were the top three factors that positively contributed to the rise of IIP.
The output of capital goods rose 4.4%, while that of primary goods increased 5.2%. The growth rates for construction and intermediate products were 10.6 and 5.0 percent, respectively. Consumer durables saw a growth of 3.5%, while consumer non-durables saw a slight increase of 6.3%.
